Align believes that yoga is about harnessing the mind first and all other benefits are bonuses. We stress alignment to keep the practice safe, letting the mind be unhindered by any pain, confusion, etc. of not being comfortable in a pose. Yoga is not about having a perfect pose to show to fellow students; it's about doing the pose that your body is meant to be doing in this moment in time. Our world is chaotic enough. When you come to Align, you get a break from the chaos and a nurturing sanctuary in which to learn, grow, and become one with your true self.
Align Yoga & Healing Arts conducts classes at 255 South Schuyler in downtown Kankakee. It is two doors south from the Love shop and across from the Kankakee Farmer's Market.

Julia has been practicing yoga since 2000. Since then she has gained a sense of well-being and empowerment. “I love yoga because it fosters compassion and esteem for myself and others.” Her fundamental teacher training was with the Temple of Kriya Yoga in Chicago in 2007. Now she is registered with Yoga Alliance as a E-RYT teacher with over 1000 teaching hours. She is a perpetual student herself and is mostly influenced by Iyengar yoga, an anatomically precise style of yoga that aims to support the student at any level of flexibility. Come to her gentle classes with or without any yoga experience--she loves to see new faces!
Julia is also a neuromuscular massage therapist at Align. She received her fundamental training in massage from The Soma Institiute, National School of Clinical Massage in 2002 and treats chronic pain conditions from the head down to the feet. Kristin has always had a passion for fitness and began adding the wonderful practice of yoga to her fitness regime about 8 years ago. In the beginning, it was merely a different form of exercise, but she quickly learned yoga offers so much more than just physical benefits. Her curiosity and interest in yoga deepened quickly, so she decided to expand her knowledge by becoming a Registered Yoga Teacher through Moksha Yoga Center, which she is currently finishing this fall. Kristin is excited to share her knowledge and passion for yoga with others. Expect a challenging vinyasa style class focusing on alignment and creative sequences.
